MOKA Garden

On November 6th, Hyundai Department Store will team up with the globally acclaimed designer Jaime Hayon to launch MOKA Garden at Korea’s first gallery-style store – Hyundai Space No.1 in Namyangju. The MOKA Garden, fully designed by Jaime Hayon, features three interactive cultural spaces designed to spark imagination and provide entertainment: MOKA Library, Jaime Hayon Garden, and MOKA Play.

Discussing this opportunity, Jaime Hayon remarked: “Designing my first interior space in Korea is an absolute delight for me because I adore Korea and everything related to its culture. It’s a total joy. Especially since I have the freedom to create something, which also poses a significant challenge for me. I am truly proud and excited to undertake this task. In MOKA’s second design phase, the acclaimed Spanish designer was tasked with integrating the theme of ‘nature’ into his eagerly awaited inaugural interior design project in Korea.

When designing the library’s logo, Hayon imagined children navigating through a winding maze of bookshelves—the very heart of the library—naturally discovering books perfectly placed at their eye level. The various characters within the library are depicted in ceiling artworks and accompanying seating sculptures, bringing vibrancy to life. Additionally, there are two extra spaces: “Edu Lab,” furnished with tables and chairs designed by Hayon himself, serves as an educational program area; and “Art Lab,” which will feature nature-themed exhibitions. During its opening period, it will display the artist’s design sketches, 3D models of the space, and comments from the artist.

The Jaime Hayon Garden, named after its designer Jaime Hayon, serves as the centerpiece of MOKA Garden. Its inclined glass ceiling lets natural light flood in, illuminating a vast array of plants and offering visitors a place to relax and find inspiration. This garden showcases familiar elements of nature, encouraging visitors to rediscover its beauty and value. There are eight distinctive animal-shaped sculptures (one located at the mall entrance) and a large fountain head, all products of Hayon’s creativity, with each sculpture personally named by him.
