ZLR Design Unveils Qi Mei Cultural Exchange Center: A Poetic Retreat in Xi’an
Nestled in the historically rich city of Xi’an, the Qi Mei Cultural Exchange Center emerges as a striking example of a multi-functional space, seamlessly blending cultural exchange with modern office environments. This project focuses on a diverse array of activities: from tea ceremonies and calligraphy to formal meetings, social gatherings, and professional work. The ultimate goal? To craft an inviting and sophisticated venue that exudes a profound Chinese aesthetic, characterized by a sense of calm elegance and rich, layered complexity.

ZLR Design, the firm commissioned for this ambitious undertaking, embraced the theme of “Elegant Oriental Charm.” They masterfully drew inspiration from traditional Chinese garden design principles, applying these concepts from the overarching spatial layout down to the most intricate details. Their meticulous approach aimed to infuse the essence of Chinese aesthetics into every corner, resulting in a uniquely evocative and immersive spatial experience.

Echoes of Nature: Crafting a Serene Arrival
Stepping into the main entrance, visitors are immediately enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquility. The ceiling, crafted with delicate water ripple patterns, perfectly mirrors the undulating “ripple” panels on the floor below. This harmonious interplay creates an illusion, as if a single stone has just been cast into a placid lake, sending out ever-expanding concentric circles that invite a sense of calm and contemplation.

Further inside, ink-wash bamboo painting screens stand tall, their subtle artistry beautifully accentuated by soft, diffused lighting. Together, they create an ambient glow that is both dim and subtly revealing, transporting onlookers to the serene landscapes depicted in classical Oriental art. This thoughtful fusion ensures that a rich, profound Chinese sensibility doesn’t just exist within the space, but truly flourishes and takes on a vibrant presence.

Within the carefully curated artistic landscape, a striking installation embodies the auspicious Chinese characters for “Shuang Quan”, symbolizing “completeness” or “perfection.” This elegant piece engages in a delightful visual dialogue with the indoor scenery, elevating the entire environment into an artistic statement while simultaneously transforming art itself into an integral part of the space.
